Mud to Mud

Installation in the waters of the canal port of Migennes, part of the contemporary art circuit around the canal and in the town of Migennes, FR, Curated by Canal Satellite/Art Contemporaine.

This work was made with the generous collaboration of the Aléonard tile works in Pontigny.

It's one link in the chain: bricks and tiles transported by canal boat were transferred to trains here in Migennes...

A rippling group of elongated tiles, emerging from under the water, and supported by the mud at the bottom of the canal. Are they growing out of this silt? Distorted by the movement of their voyage and made from local clay, they look as if they are waving in the wind and their balance is precarious - will they fall over and return to the silt at the bottom of the canal?
