Jane Norbury
biography
jane norbury
A British artist who lives in France, a sculptor who forms clay which is then fired, a ceramicist who also creates with raw earth, an installation artist who works site sensitively, a performer who collaborates with other artists, an experienced educator…clay, or more precisely earth, has been her medium for nearly 40 years.

After studying ceramics and sculpture in the UK and in France, Jane set up her first studio in a former suitcase factory in London - Unit 7 Studios. In 1990 she bought an old farmhouse in rural Burgundy to store her large installation piece “Têtes Brûlées”, first exhibited at the opening of Canary Wharf, London in 1991. L'Atelier des Neuf Portes has been her home and studio ever since.

Jane' exhibits in many galleries and museums, as well as in canals and marshes, old brickworks, deconsecrated churches, woodland and landscaped gardens. Her work has been widely shown in France, and also in the UK, Germany, Switzerland, Spain, Japan, Canada, Belgium, Hong Kong, Australia and the USA.

The works of Jane Norbury seem to be the emanations of nature without however imitating it, in a magical balance between the work of the hand and the innate qualities of the material.
